1845, First Edition. London : Charles Knight & Co. Good copies both in half leather over marble boards, now lightly scuffed and rubbed at the edges. Spine gilt-tooled, with decorative raised bands and red leather labels. Corners, joints and endbands rubbed. Front joint vol. 1 cracked with hinge weak, but sewing holding; vol. 2 title page and rear endpapers show faint marginal damp-stains. Text edges marbled, now faded. Preliminary and final leaves showing some faint creasing or dust, with the interior remaining tight and clean on the whole, with some margins lightly foxed. A well-preserved example overall.
