My satire and its censors

1861, First Edition. London : George Manwaring. Alfred Austin, better known as a dull poet laureate. This is an earlier, spirited defense (in verse) of his satirical poem "The Seasons," which had better given a poor review by William Hepsworth Dixon in The Athenæum. Original purple cloth, light staining (smt. spilled on it). Bookplate of William Miller Dickensiana.Good copy in the original gilt-blocked cloth. Slight suggestion only of dust-dulling to the spine bands and panel edges. Remains particularly well-preserved overall; tight, bright, clean and strong. Item #379970

Physical description : (52 pages.) Subjects : Censorship. Censorship. Poetry. British Poets. Cowen, Joseph 1829-1900 [former owner]. English literature.
